I got a great deal on this model at $50 less than the retail stores. I've been happy with this player for over a month and no problems to report. If there was one thing LG could do to make it better, it would be to allow users to adjust the amount of idle time before the unit automatically shuts off. Not a complaint, but having the option would be nice. Netflix and Youtube work as advertised. I tried using a wireless network connection, but the signal wasn't strong enough to stream Netflix. I ended up having my internet provider install a new wireless DSL modem (no charge) next to the TV for a direct connection to the dvd player and then use the wi-fi for our computers. The ideal solution!

I this player for my boyfriend for Christmas. It took him less then ten minutes to set it up. The quality is great and we are constantly using the netflix and you tube features. If you like LG this is the product for you. Great price for a blu-ray player as well. I looked for a long time for a blu-ray for him and I am really glad I got this one.

It turned out I didn't need the Blu Ray player because it didn't have built in wireless. I had some issues with getting a reasonable refund. This has all been resolved with assistance from Bruno in customer satisfaction.

Great picture. Netflix is easy to setup. Additionally, plays european DVDs (on default firmware - didn't update because so far no need to). Load times are OK.

The only cons are it switches TV over to itself automatically when boots and is should be easier to handle markers/memorize positions within disk with it.

As a devoted Sony owner for 30 years I am dismayed at having 3 Sony DVD players die (2 after just a year, 1 after 95 days and 5 days out of warranty. That does not include the one that died after a week and was returned to Sony store)

Sony has been completely rude in customer service.

Now my 32" Sony Bravia HD TV, top of the line, died after 18 months. Again out of warranty.

The DVD players failed in disc loading and in signal to TV transfer. The Bravia TV failed in power, will not boot up beyond stand-by.

The OPPO Blue ray player I replaced this with is wonderful!

I am saddened that Sony has treated me so poorly these last couple years. I have wasted a great deal of money with their now shoddy products.

I bought a Sony Blu-ray in 2008 and loved it so much I decided to get another one. I'm happy I did. It is a basic player, not a lot of unnessecary bells and whisltes. I don't want or need anything more. Play my DVDs and I'm happy. The one thing I really like is I can hook my Blu-ray up to the internet and download updated firmware to keep it up to date. Nice feature.

 "Disappointing Quality from a Presumed Blu-Ray Leader" 2010-01-25

Picture- and sound-quality are excellent. However, it has a number of significant problems and I'm returning this item.

- Its remote is one of the worst I've seen, with tiny, non-backlit buttons placed very close in parallel to each other, and which cause you to press chapter skip when you meant to fast forward/reverse, and vice versa. It does not even have eject button.

- One DVD playback, sometimes it resumes from the last point of play, and sometimes it does not.

- It's hypersensitive to finger prints / minor scratches on DVDs, and often freezes (which requires powering off the unit and on again), where the same DVD plays fine on my PC and on my regular DVD player.

- The buttons on the player unit itself are not backlit, so forcing you to turn on the room lights to eject disc, etc.

 "Stops being able to play Blu-ray discs" 2010-01-22

I've had my BDP-S350 for about a year now, and in that time I've used it infrequently at best. It now, inexplicably, refuses to recognize any Blu-ray disc I put in. Standard DVDs play fine, but BDs do not, and it's a problem I found is documented on AV forums and the reviews on Sony's own site. Most guesses are that the blue lasers are unreliable, as it seems to be a problem consistent across multiple firmware updates. Additionally, I didn't change my firmware between when I last played a BD disc and now.



For a player as expensive as this one, it seems to have an incredibly short lifespan. If you waste your money on this, expect to be buying a new player soon after.

This player is great value for the money. I have owned mine for a little over a year now and it has worked flawlessly as far as playing regular blu-ray and Dvd movies is concerned. My only gripe is that despite repeated firmware updates the player still cannot seem to decode the so-called BD-Live contents even when the disc menu clearly shows it is available. I hooked mine permanently to my DSL Modem and it downloads and installs updates automatically whenever it is available. It even recently downloaded updates for my Sony Bravia LCD TV. When I purchased it from Best Buy I was told that it would be BD-Live capable with future firmware updates and the manufacturer's description clearly promised this too but alas it seem like a bogus claim. Another thing is that it sometimes 'forgets' where it stopped playback and starts from the beginnning unlike my regular Sony RDR-VX560 1080p Tunerless DVD Recorder/VHS Combo Player which always starts from where it stopped the last time. Minor gripe



So if you're buying this for playback of regular movies then go ahead but if you plan on viewing BD Live contents over the web try another model.

The unit worked fine for 13 months (12 month warranty of course). I decided to upgrade to firmware v20 to maybe get some additional features/functionality. Now when I put in a Blueray disc, the player says "unknown". I spent 2 hrs on the phone with Sony to no avail. Now I have an overpriced DVD only player!

Sony has zero customer service. Having to update regularly is the biggest pain of all I bought blu ray and I should be able to play when I like. No. have to update every month or so...are you friggin kidding me?!?! The worst product I have ever purchased......Customer service is horrible..if they speak english. Wish Toshiba had won because Sony SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

Lot of problems, and, from what I read, warranty support and "customer service" mean nothing. One of you had massive problems with the unit being less than a year old, but was told that you HAD to pay shipping and parts/labor to get the unit repaired. This has NOT been an uncommon complaint. Per Samsung's specs, their warranty is: Manufacturer Warranty



* Service & Support 1 year warranty

* Service & Support Details Limited warranty - Parts - 1 year , Limited warranty - Labor - 90 days



The BOTTOM part of the warranty could be an "out" for them. If not, with all of the warranties not being honored, do I hear Small Claims court Claim, lawsuit, CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT?



Individual consumers being taken to the cleaners by large companies is BS. They have to be hit where it hurts...in the bottom line and in reputation.

I have a BD-P1500 (the model that preceded the 1600) that's less than a year old. A recent firmware update bricked the player, and Samsung support tells me I have to pay for labor and shipping. Of course, it's cheaper to buy a new player than to have them fix it. The update was sent automatically with "Yes" as the default option to apply the update, and there was no warning message.



I'm posting this review under the BD-P1600 because firmware updates have been an issue with this player as well. If you have any Samsuing BR player that's outside the three-month warranty, be very cautious about applying updates. Samsung will not support you.

The many reviews stating that a download of some new firmware programming caused the box to stop playing or lock up completely stopped me from purchasing the Samsung player. Unfortunately, I have not yet purchased a machine because I am gun-shy. I don't want to be the one the manufacturer sticks with the lemon just to see what kind of reaction there will be. I like the idea that it connects to Pandora and Netflix. I have space available here on my router right here in my living room. I will have to go with either the Panasonic or the Sony model. Both have always been good to me in the past.

I purchased two of these new for Christmas, the one that is still functioning is great and I love it but one just stopped working... Luckily I was within their short return period so they had to take it back and I didnt have to pay for repairs as others did. I opted not to replace it with another one based partly on the way Samsung is not taking care of people from a waranty standpoint and partly on the fact that they may not have fixed the problems yet. Awesome machine when it functions but buy at your own risk.
